Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-12
1. Who is responsible
FamesClub LLC, 8605 Santa Monica Blvd #272885, West Hollywood, CA 90069, USA. Contact: contact@famesclub.com.
2. The short version
- We never show a stranger where you are or were. Only if you and someone you met both turn on “Friends on my map” does that person see your last spot.
- Members only see what you choose to share. Wishes stay anonymous unless they are mutual.
- No advertising, no selling of data, no tracking cookies.
3. What we collect
When you apply and sign in
- Your e-mail address (sign-in with a one-time code)
- Name, username, Instagram handle, profession, home city, the focus areas you choose
- Profile photo (location data in the photo is removed before upload)
- Your date of birth — to confirm you are 18 or older, and to keep places with a higher minimum age (such as 21+ bars and clubs in the US) out of your suggestions, check-ins and meets. It is never shown on your card or to other members.
- If you add it, your phone number — never on your card for everyone. Only the members you choose to share it with after swapping cards see it, and you can take it back at any time.
- Your confirmation that you are 18 or older, and your consent to these terms with a timestamp
- Who invited you, and the first names of people you invite
When you use the app
- Location — while the app is open, to show the map around you, to check you in at a place and to stamp a place after two minutes there (and with the app closed only if you turn on “Uncover while you travel”, see below). We store that you checked in at a place, and when; we never store a route or a trail on our servers, and never show a stranger where you are or were. While you look for the place of the day or a drop, we keep your last position for 30 minutes to check that you really walked there. When you find a drop, we keep that you found it, when, and your number among the finders; if you win, the creator or partner who gives the prize learns your name so they can hand it over.
- Friends on my map — off unless you turn it on. Only people you met who also turned it on see your last spot: the app sends it at most every 15 minutes while it is open, it disappears after 3 hours, and there is never a trail. You can leave out single people; turning it off removes your spot at once.
- People you met — when two members scan each other’s code, we store that you met, when and in which city. This is how your level is counted. Only you see the number.
- Meets — your requests for a spot, the host’s answer, the updates a host posts and your reactions to them, and whether you said “I’ll be there” to an evening by FamesClub.
- Wishes, Discover and matches — who you want to meet and your swipes in Discover. Nobody sees a wish unless it is mutual; then both of you see the match.
- Plans to meet — FamesClub has no chat. When you plan to meet someone you matched with or met, we keep the place and time you chose, their answer, and taps like “I’m here” or “Can’t make it”, and tell the other person.
- Stories — the photo (saved anew, without location data) and caption you post at a place, and whether it shows your face or only the place. A place-only story never tells others who posted it. “Tonight” stories are shown for 24 hours, “Best of” stories until you delete them; your own stories stay in your profile for you.
- Reports and blocks — what you report and whom you block. A report only counts after our team has checked it.
- Settings — who sees your card, notification switches, private mode.
- Drops you leave — when you leave a drop (a moment, a spot at your meet, a wish or an invitation), we store it with the exact spot where you stood, until it is found or runs out (a moment after 7 days). It is never on the map: it shows up only to someone within 80 metres, 30 minutes after you left, and only whoever picks it up learns it is from you — and you learn who found it. A moment’s photo is saved anew, without location data, and only you and its finders can see it.
- Looking for drops — in the street view, the app sends your position to check what is within 80 metres. We keep only your last position, for 30 minutes, to check that you walked (not jumped) there.
- Your map (the way you’ve come) — the parts of the map you uncover by going there are kept only on your phone, as a grid of small squares, and are never sent to us. If you turn on “Uncover while you travel” and allow location “Always”, your phone also notes the streets you pass while the app is closed, about every 150 metres, and keeps them on the phone in the same way. Turn it off in Settings at any time; “Forget my way” deletes it from the phone. When you open the app far from where it last saw you (within 3 hours), the app asks our server for the most likely road between those two points to uncover it; our server passes the two points to a routing service and stores neither.
- Places you like or suggest — when you like a place that isn’t on FamesClub, or suggest it, we store that with your account. The team sees how many members liked or suggested a place, not who. You can take a like back at any time.
- Screenshots — when you take a screenshot of another member’s card, your iPhone tells the app, and the app shows a short reminder to keep it in the club. Nothing about it is stored or sent to us.
Camera, photos and contacts
The camera reads QR codes on your phone (a member’s code, the code at a partner’s counter) and takes story photos; a photo is only uploaded when you post it. When you invite someone, you pick a contact on your phone; your contacts are never uploaded.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, your phone gives us an Apple push token. We use it to tell you what happened (for example “You’re in”, a match, “Lena is here”, an invitation). Each kind can be switched off in Settings; signing out removes the token from your account. Notifications never contain where anyone is.
Purchases
Memberships and extra wishes are bought through Apple. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card or bank details. We receive Apple’s signed confirmation of the purchase (product, transaction number, dates, renewal or refund), linked to your account by your member number, and store it to give you what you bought.
Device check
Before a stamp counts, the app asks Apple’s DeviceCheck service to confirm that it runs on a genuine iPhone. We store only that, and when, the check passed. This protects stamps and prizes from fake devices.
The AI concierge
When you ask the concierge, your question and the places, meets and things your circle shares with you that fit it are sent to Anthropic, which runs the AI model, to write the answer. Your location is never sent — only walking minutes we calculate. Anthropic handles this under its commercial terms: it does not use it to train its models and keeps it only for a short time.
When you write to us
Mail to contact@, press@ or hello@famesclub.com lands in our mailbox and in our team’s admin, together with our answer. To answer faster, a reply may be drafted by an AI (Anthropic) from your message. We keep the conversation as long as we need it to help you and for our records.
Directions
When you tap “Walk”, our server asks a routing service for the way from your current position to the place; to fill in a road you travelled (see “Your map”), it asks for the likely way by car between two points. The routing service only sees our server, not who you are. We do not store the route.
4. Why we may use it (GDPR)
- To run the membership and the app’s functions you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- “Friends on my map”, “Uncover while you travel”, Discover and notifications only with your choice, which you can change at any time (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
- To keep the club safe — reviewing reports, device checks, a log of team actions (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- To keep purchase records as the law requires (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
5. Who processes data for us
- Supabase — database, sign-in, file storage.
- Render — the website and its server.
- Apple — push notifications, purchases, DeviceCheck, Apple Wallet if you add your card.
- Anthropic — the AI concierge (only when you use it) and drafts of our answers to your e-mails.
- FOSSGIS e.V. (routing.openstreetmap.de, Germany) — walking directions and the likely road you travelled, through our server.
- Zoho — our e-mail: the mailbox for contact@, press@ and hello@famesclub.com, and the sign-in and “You’re in” e-mails.
- OpenFreeMap — the map images; your phone loads them directly, so their servers see your IP address.
- Google — Google Wallet, only if you add your card there.
FamesClub is run from the United States, and most of these services are there. If you use FamesClub from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
We may also share information if the law, a court or an authority requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of members and others. If FamesClub is merged, sold or reorganized, your information may pass to the new owner under this policy.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account, card, check-ins, stamps and stories: as long as you have an account. When you delete your account in the app, they are deleted at once; copies in backups disappear as the backups roll over, within about 30 days.
- An application we haven’t accepted: kept so you can see its status, until you delete your account (in the app, or by writing to us).
- Notifications waiting to be sent: 7 days. Welcome e-mails and texts waiting to be sent: 30 days. Device checks: the latest one only.
- Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Your way on the map: only on your phone, until you choose “Forget my way” or delete the app.
7. Your rights
Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority (e.g. LDI NRW). Write to contact@famesclub.com. You can delete your account in the app under Settings.
8. Cookies
The website only uses technically necessary cookies to keep you signed in. No tracking, no analytics, no advertising cookies — so there is nothing to consent to and no cookie banner.
9. We don’t sell your data
We do not sell or share personal information for money or for targeted advertising, and we don’t show ads. If that ever changes, we will tell you first and give you the choices the law requires, including honoring Global Privacy Control signals.
10. California
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to get a copy; to have it corrected or deleted; to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither); to limit the use of sensitive information; and not to be treated differently for using these rights. The categories we collect are listed in section 3: identifiers and contact details, profile and card information, photos, approximate and — while you use the map — precise location, purchase records, and how you use the app. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask to verify your identity before answering. California’s “Shine the Light” law: we don’t share personal information with others for their direct marketing.
11. Security
We protect your information with access controls, encryption in transit and limited access for our team. No system is perfectly secure; keep your phone and your sign-in codes to yourself.
12. Aggregated information
We may use numbers that don’t identify anyone — for example how many places are open in a city or how many members met this week — to run and improve FamesClub.
13. Age
FamesClub is for people aged 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you believe someone under 18 has applied, tell us at contact@famesclub.com.
14. Changes and contact
We may update this policy and tell you in the app before important changes take effect. Questions and requests: FamesClub LLC, 8605 Santa Monica Blvd #272885, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States · contact@famesclub.com.
